On March 28, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, the strongest in over a century, with its epicenter in Mandalay, the second biggest city in the country. While we are relieved that Parami students have not been physically harmed, the emotional toll is deep. One student lost her home and her grandfather.
Many of our staff have lost their family members. Others are navigating grief, fear, and uncertainty. It is now feared that the death toll could exceed 10,000.
Communication is a major challenge. The Internet and electricity are down in many areas, and our team on the ground is working tirelessly to reach every student to ensure their safety and support. Access to food, clean water, medicine, medical care, and basic supplies is becoming increasingly difficult.
This crisis affects not only our students but also Parami’s staff, their families, and the communities our students come from. We are launching an urgent relief campaign to respond to their most immediate needs.
