Town hall meetings focus on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

Virtual Town Hall Meetings with Parents, Guardians, and Students in the Spring Semester

Parami University recently hosted two town hall meetings for the Spring semester. These meetings brought together students, faculty, parents, and guardians to discuss the university's progress, address challenges, and foster a stronger academic community. The meetings served as a platform for open dialogue between the participants, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Student meeting highlight

The meeting was attended by the university president, 101 students, faculty, and staff. Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, president of Parami University, shared three key lessons he wished he had embraced during his undergraduate years while reflecting on his education journey.

  • Collaboration: He encouraged students to engage with peers, join clubs, and collaborate on research projects, leveraging Parami's online networks like OSUN.

  • Diverse Learning: Drawing from his experience as a science student who explored arts and humanities, he urged students to take diverse courses across disciplines to broaden their perspectives.

  • Leveraging Resources: Acknowledging the limited resources during his time, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tune highlighted the abundance of modern tools available at Parami University, including DataCamp and Google Courses, urging students to maximize these opportunities.

Encouraging creativity and initiative

As Parami University encourages creativity, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun encouraged students to take value-added and impactful initiatives through a podcast initiative. He discussed the Podcast Initiative, a platform where students can creatively discuss intellectual topics. Drawing inspiration from shows like This American Life, he encouraged students to develop hosting skills and engage with diverse ideas.

The Q&A session was engaging with questions from students. Apart from classes offered by Parami University, students were reminded of the many courses available through Parami's network and professional online platforms. One student discussed her desire to join more classes.

Addressing electricity concern

As the electricity and internet issues have worsened, the president assured students studying in Myanmar that the Student Affairs team is monitoring the challenges and is prepared to provide any support they need.

Parent Meeting: Gratitude and Shared Aspirations

The meeting brought together 54 parents and guardians, highlighting the university’s commitment to inclusivity, addressing parental concerns, and celebrating achievements.

The president of Parmai University, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, proudly shared with the parents about the university’s three journeys that have welcomed 230 students and aim to admit 120 more from this year's admissions.

Despite challenges like political unrest, climate change, and limited resources, Paami University is committed to maintaining high-quality education. Scholarships covering 97% of tuition fees are provided, and continued efforts are made to support students in need.

Addressing Parental Concerns

A student's parent pointed out the intense first-semester workload and asked for suggestions for addressing the issue. Some first-year students may experience challenges managing their workload in the first semester as they need time to adjust to the learning environment.

This gesture portrays how parents are involved in their children’s education, motivating them to excel academically and socially. Students are encouraged to seek guidance from advisors and professors who are willing to help them during office hours.

Another parent expressed concerns about supporting her daughter’s education. The president reassured her of ongoing scholarships to alleviate financial burdens. Parami University believes that students' lack of financial resources should not deter them from obtaining a quality education. As a non-profit institution, we encourage students to apply for financial aid if they need financial support.

Parents from diverse backgrounds shared heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Parami University. Families from refugee camps expressed appreciation for the non-discriminatory education opportunities provided by Parami. Other parents showed gratitude to the university for both quality education and stipends, while a proud aunt shared how her nephew’s aspirations were revived through his studies at Parami.

Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun discussed future opportunities, including setting up physical learning spaces. While logistical and political challenges currently hinder these plans, the university remains committed to exploring solutions.

Both events underscored Parami University’s mission to provide quality education amid adversity. From addressing students’ academic and logistical concerns to ensuring parental involvement, the discussions highlighted the collective effort required to nurture a thriving academic community.
