Nine Parami students attended the International Youth Day Celebration at the United Nations General Assembly headquarters in New York, supported by AFS Intercultural Programs, while in the United States for a summer internship. The conference brought together over 700 young leaders from 80 countries committed to positively impacting their community and the world around them.
Parami students expressed their appreciation to be a part of this international conference. They had a chance to hear diverse stories and experiences and gain inspiration for their future.
Here is what the students had to say about their experience.
"It was a fortunate opportunity for us, Parami students, to be exposed to the rigor of other international youth peers at some of the significant venues in New York City, including the United Nations Headquarters." —Kelvin
"I heard various stories of struggles for rights, freedom, and educational opportunities. There were inspiring stories, such as the story of an Afghan youth who escaped after the Taliban's takeover and stories of fighting for lost educational opportunities and justice. However, it is truly disheartening to see that Myanmar youths' lost opportunities and fight for justice remain a "forgotten issue" at the United Nations." —Naing
